Halloween Best Dressed Photo Contest

If you think your child’s costume is the cutest on the block, here’s you chance to prove it. Post a picture of your kid in his or her outfit to enter for a chance to win $1,000 Gilt Credit. Visit the “contests” tab on the Gilt Children Facebook page or click on the following link to enter to win: http://on.fb.me/GiltHalloween.

How the Contest Works

Between October 22 and November 8, upload a photo of your kid in his or her costume to the Gilt Children page by clicking on the Enter link above. The 10 most popular entries—as voted on by Gilt Children fans until November 19—will become finalists.

Fans can encourage their friends to vote for their the following ways:

1. Invite friends to participate in the contest: http://apps.facebook.com/contestshq/contests/68665/invites/new?ogn=facebook
2. Post your vote to your Facebook wall my selecting “share on my wall” when you vote for your favorite photo.
3. Let your friends know that you can vote for each entry once per day — so submit your entry early and vote often!

A panel of Gilt Groupe judges will then select five winners based on the overall quality of the photo and the costume, announcing the results by November 26 on the Gilt Children page and Twitter account. Each of the winners will receive a $1000 credit for use on Gilt.com.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day! I hope whatever you spend the day doing you make sure to take time out for yourself.

To my own mom, who took both boys so that I could sleep in, thank you. I appreciate the nights that you watch them so that I can get some rest and “me” time.  I know I don’t say it enough but I love you and am very thankful for everything you do for me.

To my stepmom, resting in Heaven, I love you and I can’t wait to see you someday.

Top 10 Things I’d Love For Mothers Day

I decided to make a list of the top 10 things I would LOVE for Mother’s Day just in case a special someone is reading this! :)

1. Sleep- I would love to sleep in. I’m not asking to sleep the day away but sleeping until at least 7am would be fantastic.

2. Hugs and Kisses- If you remember… one of my favorite things about being a mom is all the hugs and kisses I get from my children.

3. Starbucks Iced Mocha- Wouldn’t it be lovely if my boys woke me up with one of those? yum. I’m not asking for a homemade breakfast, just a quick trip to Starbucks would be plenty to fill my tummy (though I would not be upset if you decided to go the eggs, bacon, and french toast route, too).

4. Flowers- I don’t need a big bouquet of roses but I would love some flowers. My favorite would be ones picked with love from our yard (I’d even take some dandelions).

5. Homemade card- Yeah, Hallmark cards are nice but my son’s coloring is even prettier. (You could even earn some brownie points by helping Jacob write some words on it like “I have the best mom ever” or “my mom is the prettiest woman I have ever seen”)

6. Clean house- After I finally roll myself out of bed I would love to leave my bedroom and discover a clean house. Not lick-the-floors-clean but you-won’t-step-on-anything-clean would be wonderful!

7. Family time- After we go to Church I would love to go on a family walk or take the boys to the playground. We could even go somewhere else just as long as we can do it together.

8. “Me” time- I would love to get a pedicure while the boys are napping and then enjoy some time on the computer.

9. Date night- After the boys go to bed it would be great to enjoy dinner and a movie at home.

10. Ice cream and devotions- My “perfect” Mother’s Day would end with devotions as a couple while we eat ice cream (chocolate, peanut butter for me and pistacchio for Sinisa).

So that’s my ideal Mother’s Day….

Today, April 1st, is April Fool’s Day.

My favorite prank I ever played on anyone was one year (and come to think of it, I don’t even know if it was April Fool’s Day or not) my brother and I played a prank on our mom. We put a sign on the back of her car that said “honk, it’s my birthday” before we drove away from the house. Everyone was honking at her and she couldn’t figure out why. It was hilarious.

Better Basket Blog Hop

I’m joining in on Hershey’s Better Basket Blog Hop to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. CMN is a non-profit whose mission, according to their website, is “to generate funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of member hospitals/foundations and the children they are privileged to serve”. They “create miracles by funding medical care, research and education that saves and improves the lives of 17 million children each year”. For everyone that blogs about this blog hop, Hershey is donating $10 per blog post, up to $5,000!

Think Outside The (Easter) Basket

Every Easter I buy baskets to put goodies in. I don’t just pick any old basket. I take my time. I choose the cutest baskets I can find. I then search multiple stores for yummy candies and fun toys. I buy the colorful Easter grass so that I can nestle the goodies in the basket. I organize the items in the basket so each one can be seen. Get my drift here? This Easter basket takes a few hours to prepare. Here is Jacob’s Easter basket last year (it was his first Easter basket):

Wasn’t it cute? Jacob was young so not a lot of goodies but a decent amount. He loves the fridge DJ and the Thomas book. His dad and I enjoyed the candy. And the basket… well, I’m not sure where the basket is. It may be in a box in storage. It may have been given to Goodwill when we moved…. I just don’t know!

So this year we aren’t doing baskets. I just can’t stand the thought of spending $5-10 on something that we will not be keeping. And now that I have two children the cost goes up! So this year we are skipping the baskets and instead we are giving each of the children their “goodies” in these rolling toy bins that I found at Target.

Aren’t they wonderful?! They were more expensive to buy than baskets but I know that they will be used after Easter, too. We could always use more toy storage and these are sturdy, mobile, and have handles for easy lifting. I love them! :)

*’Roots and Wings Co.’ blog has a great idea for Saint Patrick’s Day called “I am lucky” in which their family members write things they are lucky for (similar to thinking about what we are thankful for on Thanksgiving).
